Hi. My name is Vanessa N. Arita. Let me tell you a little bit about myself.
I’m a graphic designer, photographer, and educator, but I am always learning something new. I have an intense passion for languages. So far I’ve mastered English and Spanish, my mother tongue, but I’m also quite competent in Italian.
About My Experience
I have 8+ years of work experience in the graphic arts industry. Currently, I am part of the adjunct faculty at Centro Tecnológico Universitario (Ceutec) in Tegucigalpa, Honduras. I teach graphic design and Italian language courses.
Previously, I was founder and creative director for a small Honduran graphic and web design business called Crisálide. Though the business is currently closed, I haven’t entirely given up on the idea of opening up shop again. While we were at full force, we created beautiful projects like this online museum and this party company’s website.
I also have a varied experience outside of graphic arts. For example, I have provided interpretation services in a medical setting and translation services in legal and editorial settings.
During my college years, I worked closely with an education program at the Snite Museum of Art, which develops tours and printed bilingual gallery guides of the Latin American and Spanish collections within the Museum. I also worked extensively in customer service at restaurants, with register handling duties.
About My Interests
I love photography, a talent that developed into skill while taking courses in the Department of Art, Art History and Design at the University of Notre Dame. I was able to combine my interest in photography with my love for languages in a research project called “Using the Gallery as a Language Classroom,” with a summer grant from the Undergraduate Research Opportunities Program (UROP) at Notre Dame.
People tell me I am an excellent cook, and I enjoy experimenting with new flavors and cuisines. You might find mouth-watering posts about food on this blog from time to time.
I enjoy collaborative projects; if there is anything you think I can help you with, please don’t hesitate to write.
